Are You in a Long Distance Relationship?

By

A long distance relationship is defined as one where the two partners are apart for extended periods of time due to work commitments or different colleges/schools etc.

If you are away from your partner for however long, whether it be a week at a time, or longer, you are living with a long distance relationship. How do you find it? Is it easy? Is it hard?

Long distance relationships are often seen as very difficult, but in reality, they have their good points and also their bad.

Maybe you met your partner over the Internet and you live a fair distance from each other, or maybe you met in high school and then moved on to different colleges.

Whatever the case, it is obviously working for you, otherwise you wouldn't be still together. If it can work for you, then it can work for other’s right? Wrong, actually.

A long distance relationship can be very trying, and you need to have a great deal of honesty and trust in each other for this type of relationship to work.

If you agree to be monogamous, you need to be able to resist temptation and save yourself for your partner, no matter how long that will be for.

It’s not all bad though, long distance relationships tend to improve a persons patience and respect for each other. It takes time and effort to make this sort of relationship work, but then again, so does any normal relationship where the couple are living together every day.

Obviously, it’s not for everyone and you may decide, on separation, to go your separate ways. Is this because you are too scared to give it a go? Frightened that one of you will stray? You'll never know unless you try, and at least then, you can say you gave it your best shot!

There are so many good things to say about relationships in which couples are apart more often than they are together. Think of the things you could do and achieve whilst your partner was away? The time you do spend together will be cherished!

I guess it’s down to personal preference really, how much patience one has, and how long they would be prepared to wait. I would at least give it a try, you never know, it could be the best thing you ever did!
